SECTOR 3 radios, even had to limit advertising to 20% of the maximum revenues in order to re-establish the initial mandate of local radios. Most of the panellists deem that the State does make efforts given that it has established particular conditions for this type of radio. It hence exempts them from licence fees: while a normal radio station pays 15 million CFA (€22,900) a year, community radios pay the State a symbolic amount of 150,000 CFA (about €229). At present, even though community radios are organised (a Community) Radio Union of Côte d’Ivoire’s exists), legally recognised and supported by the State, they still struggle to cover their costs (the problem notably applies to paying staff).
